Overview
The Institute of Business Law and Comparative Law & Politics, Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, University of Tokyo (IBC) was established in April 2006 as a result of the consolidation of three former centers affiliated with the Graduate Schools for Law and Politics University of Tokyo : the Center for Foreign Law Materials (established in 1963), the International Center for Comparative Law and Politics (established in 1993) and the Business Law Center (established in 2001).
IBC is currently organized into the Business Law Center (BLC) and the International Center for Comparative Law and Politics (ICCLP).
The Business Law Center conducts theoretical and practical research on general business law as well as comprehensive research on the education methods necessary for the training of legal practitioners.
The International Center for Comparative Law and Politics promotes international research and education in law and political science. In addition, it has taken over the work of the former Center for Foreign Law Materials. The materials held by the latter Center have been reorganized as the "Room for Foreign Statutes and Cases" , which is a division of the Faculty of Law Library (access the library website here).
The Institute of Business Law and Comparative Law & Politics will pursue cutting-edge research in collaboration with, outstanding researchers and practitioners from Japan and overseas and will continue its efforts to bring the research outcomes back to the legal practice as well as to develop human resources who will lead the next generation.
