Institute of Business Law and Comparative Law and Politics (IBC), Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, The University of Tokyo was established in April, 2006 which integrated the Center for Foreign Law Materials (established in 1963), International Center for Comparative Law and Politics (established in 1993) and the Business Law Center (established in 2001).

Presently, IBC operates with two distinct centers of business law and comparative law and politics.

The Business Law Center (BLC) takes over the activities of ex-Business Law Center and is doing theoretical and practical research on business law in general and comprehensive research on pedagogy of educating legal practitioners.

The International Center for Comparative Law and Politics (ICCLP) carries on activities of ex-International Center for Comparative Law and Politics and is pushing on with international research in the field of law and politics. It also takes over the reference activity (provision with information on foreign law) of ex- Center for Foreign Law Materials. Though legal materials of ex- Center for Foreign Law Materials are shifted to under the control of the law faculty library, the place and regulations of the facilities are the same as before. The IBC will continue to endeavor to encourage advanced research by excellent domestic and foreign scholars and practitioners, plow back their results into society and raise personnel of the next generations.
